Le Fil
5 years and up
50 minutes
An eight-year-old boy spends the summer for the first time at his grandmother’s house on a small island isolated from the modern world. She works with banana fibre and weaves high-quality fabrics. She would like to share this knowledge with her grandson, but the child is not interested. One day, he accidentally knocks over the last jar of red pigment she needs for her weaving. He decides to go into the forest in search of the missing colour. At first, unfamiliar with each other, the boy and his grandmother will get to know each other and learn to trust one another.
Le Fil is a show that tenderly explores the theme of transmission and filiation. What do we receive from our parents and grandparents? What do we leave to our children? What is the tenuous and essential thread (le “fil”) that connects generations? By choosing to bring the art of weaving to the stage, Bénédicte Guichardon also questions our relationship with time. In a world that is constantly accelerating, Le Fil reconnects with a certain form of slowness, even contemplation.
